Window films

Postby Colin on Wed Jul 14, 2010 7:31 pm

Anyone here have any experience fitting window films? It can be a fairly profitable business and is just the sort of sideline a decorator could get into being as a lot of skills would be transferable.
If you are already in the customer's home as a trusted tradesman, it's the perfect opportunity to upsell another service. Films can be tinted, added security, have graphics (house numbers?), and insulating. You would just need to get friendly with a local supplier and maybe attend a course?

Just an idea

I was working on an office in London in the mid 90's and saw a bloke I knew from another job I was on in '85. He was a chippy in '85 and he told me he was earning more money now (then) doing window films.
He was doing it more for security in London buildings. Due to the bombings up there ppl were paying good money to installers or their companies.

All he was doing was cleaning the windows, spraying a fairy liquid type solution and applying the film. Then using a hard rubber squeegee to remove air bubbles. More to it than that I guess.

I have fitted vehicle film on my old Courier van I had. The back windows were glass. What a poxy job to get right.
Practice makes perfect tho'.

Good thought provoking post, Colin.
My opinion is neither copyrighted nor trademarked, and it's price competitive. If you like, I'll trade for one of yours.
