painting previous painted kitchen cabnets

Postby bobbones » Tue Apr 24, 2012 7:40 pm

Hi all

Got kitchen cupboards to do.
Previously painted ( maybe 5 or 6 years ago in a decent flat oilbased eggsell.) The client wants a simular hard wearing flat finish. Any ideas?
Dulux and Jono eggshells at the moment have too much sheen..... Worried that F and B waterbased is not tough enough and takes an age to harden off b4 denibing.
Sikens? Flat oil? Floor Paint???? has to have a low sheen. Primers U/C?

Cheers chaps

The modern oil-base eggshells start off shiny but they do dull down after a week or so? I'm going back to a kitchen I did before xmas in Dulux e/s so I will see how it looks now. But that would be my first choice, going with the same type of paint. If you go water-base then you have to consider a primer as well

little greene oil based eggshell all the way! - no contest - nothing comes close at the moment.

good wet flat then away you go on previsouly painted surfaces.

F&B is strong enough, it's all I ever use. I continually hear bad things about f&b and can't understand why.

The system I use is a dulux ultra grip two pack primer followed by f&b. The ultra grip drys in such a way that the surface can sanded exceptionally smooth so the need for any subsequent denibbing is limited and I only ever need to use a very fine sponge scotch pad. I have done dozens using this system over various substrates and the finish has always been exceptional. I also still work in many of the houses, some I done more than 6 years ago and they look as new.
